What do the condos look like?

Wow, that is a tough question. I always hate seeing a tree like that removed. Especially, it it dosn't need to be for reasons such as it falling apart. If the tree is healthy then that is a tough tough call.

The community should realize that the undeveloped land is the real value. A piece of open space to grow trees and enjoy. Parks and open space raise property values, preserve the environment and accomodate historic treasures. If they focus on saving one old Pecan tree they are missing a good opportunity. The tree is old and near its end anyway. Even a dumb lawyer will figure that out. They need to fight for the land, and the tree while promoting the need for open space to grow more would be historic Pecan trees.

Why doesn't the city step up and pay some and turn it into a park?

Why is the price tag so high? Smells like manipulation.

[/ QUOTE ] Sounds like one of the last pieces of undeveloped land in the area.
I say pony up the $$ or deal with it.The people had no prblem letting someone else pay the taxes all these years.

If the tree represents valuable genetic stock that could help in fighting pecan scab then the growers association and any other related institutions could pony up the money. the million dollar price tag is the market value for the property and what the owner feels it is worth. Now, if the city stepped in and reduced the zoning on the lot to limit what could be built then the value would drop accordingly.

Developers have way too much political influence at the local level.
