measure twice cut once

I had a couple small hangers overhead, instead of yanking them out I slashed at them with the chainsaw. As I do it I remember my climbing line on that side of the tree. And there it was dangling below me. I haven't nicked the line with a running saw before. Hardly slowed me down but it isn't something I plan on doing again. Two tie ins is a very good thing. Definately was an awakening.

Were you in DRT, Floating DRT on base tie, SRT base tie, SRT isolated, etc...? Just curious. It sounds like you nicked the fall side of your line.

It was drt and I got both sides. They had just a small portion of my weight on them, just tight enough to make a nice clean cut. I didn't even feel the cut, that was the creepy part. Thick bushy spruce I'd just had over a month of no climbing and there was a malfunction with the auto pilot system. I forgot to switch it from clearing brush at home to working aloft.

Nice "awakening"! That one should last you a nice little while...

Were you able to make a safe descent?
