Lowering the whole tree

This is one of Xman's videos. At about 1:30 in the video he gently lays out an entire tree.

Is it just:
2 retention lines to keep it from swaying on the way down
1 pull line to get it pulled down
Do you just trust that your hinge wood is solid or is there something at the base snubbed that I'm missing?

Hopefully X jumps in but if anyone can tell me if I'm missing something here that'd be great

It looked like there was a lowering line and a tagline, or sway prevention line. If that's the case, I'll bet they were pretty sure the tree was going to sway in a particular direction and used the tagline to prevent it. Of course I'm speculating so best for X to answer. :)

oh shoot! another thread to be a part of. Great subject. I've done this maybe 10 to 12 times in my career I think. This can easily generate some of the most extreme forces. I think it's more touchy then big weight speedlining actually. Seriously. This stuff needs thought out very well or stuff can go bad bigtime.

Lots of stuff to prepare for and watch out for. Butts of logs WILL tear away from the hingewood on a stump on heavy, tall trees. just as you get lower than 45 degrees.

I have lots of footage of various jobs and planned on doing a video on this of course.

I'll do some diagrams and show some still pictures for now I guess. This week I think.

But just a quick bit of info, if I'm worried about a butt ripping off the hinge wood and spearing back, I attach it to the stump. with chain in cut grooves or large diam rope, or I've done both.

will look for a bit for some pics right now. but I'm overdue for bed, so maybe look for 10 minutes.
