Looking for PMI Chest Roller

They are in

That is a really great photo! OnRope1 seems like a really nice store to be able to browse in. It is nice to see that Rock Exotica is again producing the chest rollers in quantity. Hopefully they sell out due to demand, so that it is in Rock Exotica's interest to continue to do so.

Thanks a lot for posting the picture!

Sweet!! I upgraded my harness and will have to wait until spring to get mine. Not as big of a hurry anymore though, I changed my climbing line from scion to xstatic which made a big difference with my rr and cbdb(smoother). It’s easier to climb srt

Great! You chaps will love 'em. A chest roller takes a little getting used to the first couple times, but it soon becomes second nature, just like a lanyard and other kit, and it makes an ascent so much more comfortable for anyone a bit heavier above the waist and top-heavy. A rope comes in or out of the PMI with just a quick twist of the fingers and they are very well crafted. I am as tight fisted as the next guy but this is money well spent IMHO.
Hey there. What multicenders have you tried them with. I know it’s successful with the rr. I’d like to know about with the hh, rw, cbdb

I have a BDB, ZZ/RW combo, and a homebrew HH with RW above it. Use the chest roller with all of them. I basically don't climb at all without my chest roller. Only take the rope out of it to move around or limb walk.

Well, you know you have to keep your priorities straight. Gear always trumps other bills any day of the week. My new shiny chest roller is here and the Onrope1 harness is the bomb!

Hey, @oldoakman! Is this the harness that you bought with your chest roller, or something different?

I would be interested to hear how well your new chest harness seems to work with the chest roller assembly. A review, of sorts. I like the fact that they seem to offer more options with regard to the sizing of the harness than does PMI. Thanks in advance.

Hey Tim, Yes, that is the harness. I ordered over the phone and the young man I spoke with was very helpful. I was concerned that the XL would be tight with only a T-shirt and I wouldn't be able to use it over heavy clothes. Turns out to be generously sized and very comfortable. They actually mount the roller on the harness for you, the shoulder buckles are sewn to the plate and there are chest adjustments on each side that are easily loosened once you arrive at height. I haven't tried it out yet, but will for sure this Saturday at a planned rec climb. I'll keep you posted.

Hey, thanks for the quick response, @oldoakman. It sounds like they provide great service!

I'm wondering what they do for someone who orders just the harness, all by itself, with regard to connecting the upper straps to a chest roller you already own. They don't show any buckles as being included on the straps in the photo of the product. I would not want the harness sewn permanently to the chest roller, even if I was ordering it from them. Their harnesses are so inexpensive, I would want to have the option to own multiple harnesses for different temps and clothing requirements, and to be able to swap them out when the seasons change.

Thanks for your time. I look forward to reading your thoughts on the new setup once you've had the chance to give it a reasonable amount of time in use.

Still use mine all the time. Both harness and roller are very well made. The main strap passes thru the slots on each side of the roller and the buckle is on the right side, very quick to adjust to different configs, whether I am in a light T-shirt or heavier clothing. The harness they sell now, in the link above, seems a different harness than the one I bought two years ago. But the roller itself looks identical. If a person found a local canvas or awning shop, or owned a fairly rugged sewing machine, a suitable harness would not take long to make. They are not used for life support in any case.

@oldoakman, any updates you can provide on the chest harness / chest rollers? Thanks

I use it sporadically, basically whatever I grab out of the gear bag and I tend to use different gear and techniques for different trees depending on what the work is. Because it is do damn hot in the south, it is a bit much here in the summer and I will usually take it off and send it to ground once I get to height which means i need to have my light chested on as well so it can get cumbersome. For long ascents it is great though.
