we have a tree here that appears dead, well no leaves. we are in mid ohio, and this thing has no leaves. However it has swollen buds. and if you cut even the smallest fines the tissue is supple and has a what appear to be greenish/ normal cambial layer. its like it got stuck in early spring. even if you split the buds open they are the same softness and greenness inside as a spring bud. its on the church property and they want it removed but its one of the nicer trees on the property. and there are nearly no otherewise dead branches. they all look alive if you don't consider they do not have leaves. no open wounds. no decay. nice structure. it has been getting water. only thing is its close to a parking lot. so it may have gotten some salt??
