Lanyard

Just wondering about the bonuses of the ce lanyard or toms u saver lanyard?

I run a basic lanyard from 1 d ring with a prusik around a stem back to the other d ring, simple.

When and in what system would you want to detach from your d ring and anchor everything off the bridge of your belt?

Looks nifty but just wondering why and when yo'd use it?

I move my lanyard to my bridge (or lower D rings on the tree motion) if my lanyard point is above me enough that the normal D's get pulled up into my rib cage. Otherwise when you run it off your bridge there is more freedom to spin around a face the other way.

If you are cutting something that is under alot of stress, or cutting pieces with alot of weight on them, and the species is known to be prone to splitting, attaching the lanyard to a central attachment point will prevent the climber from getting stuck in the "circle of death" and allow them to escape from their work position if the lanyard becomes snagged. There was quite a bit of discussion on that subject a while back if my memory serves me right.

yeah i rock a CE - type lanyard made from some odds and ends. not as sporty or stylish but serves all the function. i use it all kinds of ways, with or without a little floating thimble for single-leg action.

and im not one for real long lanyards, mines only like a 10 - 12 footer. cost me the cost of the length of tri tech i bought, and thats it. used a prussic i had, a boat snap for tending, and a biner i had.

love that i can put it on my bridge when it helps, or single line when desperate for the length. think you'd really a similar set up that you make yourself. very simple and versatile.

Another good use is to set the lanyard up in a single leg configuration on the bridge. It allows secondary tie in at twice the length of a doubled configuration.

I like long lanyards. Just my thing. However, I generally only use about 8' to 10', but there are times I want/need more. My preferred lanyard length is 20'. I find this is enough for every task.

The CE lanyard lacks some ISC bits...

... specifically the triple or double locking snaps.

My custom 20' tritech with dbl trps locking ISC snaps. I'll have to say the tritech is showing wear a lot sinner than I thought it would. I haven't hit it with the hand saw either.

I put a rated oval screw link in the spiced eye of my CE and attach an aluminum rope snap to that. I like it a lot more than a biner for the constant clipping and unclipping. But the versatility of a CE type lanyard is amazing. Great to have a deployable single line second tie in ready and waiting. I to like to use it quite often attached to a single D or my bridge to be out of the "circle of death". Only take a second to do and could make all the difference in the event of a split.

How does the ce lanyard work out with pitchy pine tree? Or do you swap it out for a cam lanyard. I used to run a vt tenex hitch but every time I ran into pine trees my lanyard just jammed the eff up.
