killer tree fellin

Pretty crazy! Some of those were on fire werent they? Nothing better than being in the middle of know where cutting wood but the added fire i am sure makes it very interesting.

Awesome. Mike did you know Mike Guarino?

Yeah there was a Mike Guarino worked with him for a while. He was a crew boss or hot shot not sure exact terminology but he was pretty high on the chain.

He worked with the PA wildland fire fighters. He did a lot of fires out west. He is a good guy..............just curious.

What happens when you need to refuel and you are surrounded by fire?

marlinspiker - ever read
Young Men and Fire by Norman Maclean?

It's about the Mann Gulch fire disaster in 1949 - smokejumpers not hotshots - but relevant no doubt. I'm sure you've read it. Great book.

I'm guessing most folks reading this thread would find it to be a worthwile, although very sad, book to read.

Cool vid. Makes me a little homesick for the nomex. Was on a type II crew in Idaho but I was type I. Last two days on the fire I got to snag in front of a shot crew. Division sup wanted to test me before he sent my down over the mountain. Made me cut two 4' doug firs that were close to the line. One was burning up a cavity, the other was a lightening strike that was dead and would fall across the line. After I dropped them on a dime he said OK. Best 2 week vacation I ever had. Like the music! Have read and re-read Young men and Fire and Fire on the Mountain. A good friend of mine was on the South Canyon fire when it blew up but was at a different location. Sad day for the Smoke Jumpers and Hotshots. RIP heros!

great book for sure. i do get nostalgic a lot about those days. the sunsets and sunrises on some beautiful country was probably the biggest benefit. we fought fire in every state from the colorado/kansas border and West. I worked from a few miles north of the Mexican border to a few miles south of the Canadian border. We saw a ton of country! I would recommend any young person looking for a great experience to take to the woods and work for a fire crew.

Nice video! I've always wanted to join a fire crew. A buddy of mine got his class C recently, shared some crazy stories.

Do you know who the musician is?
