Keeping rope clear of spikes

When I do removals srt I usually don't wear my pantin only spikes, and on my initial ascent I weight my rope with my 200 and lanyard over the shoulder to fair lead my hitch and just walk on up the trunk, but I'm always cautious of the running end of my rope-so today I clipped it to the outside of my spike so that it just ran through a carabiner-worked awesome couldn't spike my rope if I tried

I have a carabiner on each hip for when I need to stash something quickly, it also works great to route my rope tail and lanyard tail clear of my spikes.

I do that on occasion like when I am spiking up a tree with heavy lean. For the most part keeping the tail end of my rope outside of my lanyard prevents me from spiking it.

Ditto, I just keep it outside my lanyard and that usually does the trick. Makes advancing your hitch easier too, not having to pull slack into your belly button!
