The tree was in serious decline. We were lowering branches to save the lawn..as we had to fix any damage....
At about 0.55 is the problem branch, that easily weighed 1000-1500 lb. As the rigging point was in small diameter wood, we didn't want to risk breaking it out, which would have taken Dave to the ground...and that is not acceptable, now is it?! First we discussed taking 2 wraps and just letting it run.....fast...but what if the rope hockled and jammed? not likely. Dave could have worked out and cut it where it was smaller and shorter. But why. After he agreed that he was scared, which is unheard of, we decided to do the smart thing, and let it fly. Minor lawn damage...there was a lot more than had to be forked up and top dressed with some soil.
(Better alternative would have been to move the rigging down to just above that limb....where it woulda been bomber....Still would have meant 3 wraps on the porty......)
there was another problem that Scott, who was handling the line, should have noticed. He stated that the rope was burning on the PW....but actually it was running on a burl right above the PW....I didn't realize it until we only had one left to lower.....
We had to bring in a couple yards to fill the hole (from grinding the stump) anyhow.
