Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ

NATURE AND PURPOSE: The wise use of land, smart growth and livable communities has

The Specialist is responsible for the leadership, development, implementation and evaluation of a statewide research-based educational program in cooperation with county extension personnel in the planning, design and management of public land to promote sustainable communities and ecologically sound natural environments. Programs may include policy development in the area of open space acquisition and open space planning. The results of the extension and research program will lead to peer-reviewed journal publications and educational materials, and grants resulting in national recognition in the areas of smart growth and land planning and design.
As a discipline faculty, the individual will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of his/her expertise that fulfills the needs of the Environmental Planning and Design curriculum and the nationally-accredited Landscape Architecture program. Research conducted will be consistent with the mission and programs of the department and the Agricultural Experiment Station. The Specialist also serves as a resource and liaison person for and with Cooperative Extension and other University personnel, public and private organizations or agencies, including local and statewide planners, New Jersey Departments of Environmental Protection, Agriculture, and Transportation and Non-Government Organizations of interest.
