Cory,
I'm not moving, although I like Louisville.
After volunteering for 3 ITCC’s (& 45 chapter TCC's) I was rejected as a volunteer for Toronto this year because I was not an ISA member.
I am just a rec climber; not a professional arborist.
It seems that ISA ITCC is now requiring volunteers to be ISA members, in ADDITION to the volunteer:
- spending SEVERAL $1000 in travel & living.
- donating 4 - 6 days for travel, setup & comp.
ISA membership has been required for competitors.
However, I was not aware of any requirement for volunteers.
Apparently, sons, daughters, wives/husbands, etc. of members can volunteer without direct membership.
Therefore my assessment is that it is not a reasonable insurance issue.
If any relatives are allowed, it can not be a competency issue.
This spring at the NAmTCC, I was appointed to be “Safety Monitor” for the climber’s practice trees on the day before the competition. (3 trees in 2 rings)
Oh Well ......... ;-(
It is their party !
