Is there any money in stump grinding??....

We have maybe 20 full days per year, grinding stumps from trees we've removed. That's not enough, in my mind, to justify buying a huge machine, so we've always used pretty low horsepower ones The first Dosco I bought had a 20 horse engine, cost about 6K, and lasted about 27 years. Even at 1,000 per day, back in those days, that was profitable!

And we tell the customer that he or she probably doesn't want to pay arborist rates to wheelbarrow grindings and they almost always agree.

We don't do stumps...but when we do a removal and they are having it ground out, I always emphasize "know what you are getting!" Cleaning up, filling with dirt and planting grass may be close to 2x the cost of the grinding. If one company does that, of course they are going to be more - but may be worth it.
