Is there an app for that?

Hey there everyone. I am very into rec climbing and I work part time for a tree care company. Recently I got a new phone and service. The gentleman behind the counter was trying to dazzle me with all of the functions on my smart phone, and asked me what I liked. My response was of course "climb trees". He suggested that on my droid there would be a downloadable app for gps coordinates of great trees to climb. (as apparently rock climbers have something like this). I was sad to discover that thus far there is no such app. So I ask why? Why can tree people be geeky enough to pull this together? If not an app, then is there a place for gps coordinates of really great climbs? Something interesting like that? I would be willing to add info when I get it... Thoughts?

That sounds liked experienced. Let me guess, you are a salesman. The point is there should be something! People do the gps scavenger hunts, I am sure there should be some who would go on gps hunts for trees. Or maybe I am the only one.

BTW welcome to the buzz.

I am a salesperson, mostly due to my awesome exterior features, and my rapist wit.

But the idea of a map of rec friendly tree climbs is something I would vote for. Send me information regarding particular PACs that I can donate large sums of cash mixed with gold coins (they are worth their weight in gold these days) so that the lobbyists (read salespersons) may find an audience with which they might tell our collective tale of life without an app for rec climbing trees, and the suffering caused by such lack of app.

2012, here we come!

Does that mean it its a good idea or bad? I am dazzled/confused by the astrovans and gold coins. Thanks for the welcome.

Obviously a good idea, with little to no market value, like 99% of all current apps.

Let's make a quarterly newsletter.

Yep, some folks have tried to do this but they don't get enough participation. Problem is people don't often like to disclose their favorite trees, especially woods locations. After all trees and the ground around them aren't as impervious as rock. For example I wouldn't want repeat climbers in some of my favorite trees, too much soil compression and destruction of ground plants/habitat would happen. As it is I rotate my woods climbs so I don't climb any one tree more than 3 or 4 times a year, some only once a year.

Good idea though, maybe doesn't translate from the rock climbing model so great. The rec climbing web site Tree Climbers Interntational has a climber finder tool on their site, if you get in touch with a climber they'll probably take you to one of their trees. A climber finder smartphone app would be handy.

That might help me out since I drive a GMC Safari right now. In the mean time, I've found these forums quite helpful:

Targeting is such a precise verb. I prefer casting a net. And niche is a word I avoid too, so let's say kickass lifestyle (ya feel me, Tommy D).

Your suggestion to include windstars and odysseys into my life's pursuits falls on deaf ears I'm afraid. No, it has to be astrovans and Safaris. You're too blind to see that, you've got tunnel vision and all you are seeing is the soccer moms. I like a milf like the next treeman, but I'm focused on vanpower.

I'm just trying to see the bigger picture and potential growth in those un tapped markets (Montana, Previa, Sienna, etc.). With the current economic trend I must say that diversifying your market share, if done carefully, could prove rather successful in the global marketplace. E-commerce? T-Shirts? Sweet full side decals of a viking woman in a fur bikini riding a puma thats jumping through a ring of fire while she's wielding two 200T's... Keep the bread and butter. Split the the resources like 60% Astro/Safari and the other 40% amongst the rest, or what ever percentages you may have in mind, I want in on this project.

You may have me red handed on the soccer moms, but a woman that knows how handle a box van is truly real catch. To my defence, I was born and raised in an astro which was eventually traded in for the safari which was the first vehicle I learned how to drive. I will say good day to you sir.

P.S Yea, we also had the white ford pinto station wagon with the wood panels.

See, that's the thing. You're talking market share, portfolio diversity, percentages, chinch bugs, manganese....

All I do is take pictures of astrovans and safaris and post em up on facebook. There is no residual income or annuities derived from this venture. Just a dude and his smart phone.

And a whole lotta Astrovans.
