Hybrid Cottonwood Removal (Crane)

This is a 7 minute video. I tried to crunch it down a bit, but there was plenty I wanted to show. It is a very simple video. No music. I wanted the viewer to be able to listen to the sounds. I don't know about you all, but I love the sound of a chainsaw, cracking wood, etc...

Oh... And I'm not talking to myself up there.

I've got Peltor voice activated 2 way communications on my helmet.

The only thing I don't like about the Vio POV cam is the remote. You don't know when you're recording or not a lot of the time. They need to have 2 LED lights on the remote. A green light to tell you you're recording and a red one to tell you you are on stand by.

With that said, you'll see a snap cut that was made with my 046 with 28" bar, but you won't see the actual log being lifted away.

The editing is fast and the transitiions will be choppy (but still viewer friendly) insted of fading into the next frame...

Hint Hint

It's sort of like a gun slinger blowing off his 6 shooter.

As I was creating this I deliberately left in me swiping away the saw dust.

Indeed. "Cacawood" is horrible to smell.

FWIW. That video was captured early fall of 2008. In the winter of '08 & '09 the crane operator set me up with a self locking hook to tie into. I think it's bomber set up. Thoughts?

I wouldn't call it bomber.

Looks like there is a knot tied sling on the crane hook, too.

nasty fray on that line yikes

[/ QUOTE ]

May just be the whip stitching for the splice fraying.

Cool video. Nice work.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yep. Just the whipping. Nothing to worry about.

The hook certainly looks bomber but one of the requirements of the typical shackle friction saver tie in is a means to lock the shackle (i.e. carabiner or wire) so that it cannot unscrew. Remote, but not out of the realm of possibilities. Jamin how do you remove the logs from the site? I see a dump trailer in the video, do you load directly with the crane?

[/ QUOTE ]

Most were so large that we had to set them down, measure, cut, then load into the dump trailer.
