Husqvarna 395XP Chainsaw and TrueFuel

This saw is not particularly easy to start in the first place but I was having a real issue so I took it to the shop.
Discovered that it was the TrueFuel that I was running. The mechanic said that they are seeing lots of problems with this, when a saw comes in, first thing he tests, the fuel by putting a little bit out and trying to light it. He said sometimes the fuel actually runs from the flame. I have an outlet for ethanol free fuel and I guess I'll use that exclusively now.
Anybody else?

You could try Stihl MotoMix ............
Expensive, but .................. Discounted by the case .............
" 92-octane, ethanol-free gasoline with Stihl's synthetic, biodegradable HP Ultra oil in a 50:1 ratio"
http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/...hanol-in-your-lawn-gear-for-a-price/index.htm

I use it, especially at the beginning, & end of the year.
Used in my Stihl 044, 020, BR400, FS180, SE100, ............ ;-)

I don't know if this is it, but maybe the can of TruFuel was old (even old when you bought it) and maybe not a perfect seal(?).

Long time ago I had a nice weed eater that would not start. Took it to the dealer who was an old small engines guy. He took it, opened the fuel cap, smelled it and said "old gas". Dumped it out, poured in new and off it went. I was amazed because that is all he did. He said, "you know that whooshing sound your gas can makes when you open it? That is all the good stuff leaving". :) Never forgot that and ever since then I make sure I kinda know the age of my gas in storage and keep a lot less on hand. He was also the guy that taught me that the primer bulb was not a primer per-se but a small pump to flush the old gas from the carb and add new from the tank. So much to learn.

Having said that, I have never used TruFuel so I don't know. I use alcohol free 91 octane and mix as others have mentioned.

I agree.
Actually, I don't think that TruFuel is the problem, per se.

Leaking vapors from a gas storage vessel can be a problem.
My gas cans have very positive seals, e.g. O-ring seals, etc.

I certainly don't know how the test of burning a puddle of fuel was conducted.
It doesn't seem quite right.

I've been running alkylate (Tru Fuel/Motomix) exclusively for a few years now. No problems at all. I heard a story from a saw collector on another forum who has had a test running for the last ten years. He's had a saw on the shelf with a tank of motomix in it, and once every year he grabs it down and starts it up. Ten years and he said it still fires like it's nothing.

I like trufuel in my climb saw, usually put supreme mix in my larger saws. I had issues with the climb saw hard starting and lacking power, the reason I went to trufuel, helped a bit, but the saw needed a good cleaning and seafoam through the carb. Seems to work now.
