HTP/Sterling Static Climbing Line

Has anyone out there done production work on the new static climbing line from sterling? Just saw an add and was wondering how it performed with a hitchclimber system, and how it felt after workin' it for a few jobs.

Workin the tree bro, like a big prune or manual removal. Use kmIII for access and single line work, just don't know what you'd feel like after an entire day on it. My first instinct was that it wouldn't be cool, just seein if any of y'all have rocked it yet.

Which Sterling HTP are you talking about? They've got 9mm, 10mm (3/8") and 11mm. I didn't realize any of them are new, maybe the 9mm is new, not a good work choice though.

The new static ropes on their site are the 11mm Tritech and the Tech 11, both intended as lanyard/flipline rope. Waaaay too expensive to use as an access line and pretty stretchy, probably heavy too based on the materials and construction, no per foot weight info on their site that I could find.

Here's their page with static and low stretch arb ropes:

I have got the camouflage and the red version. great for footlocking.
at the comps, we are being told, that you cannot work off the full.static ropes, in case of a fall in your system.
is anybody using it for other purpose than access? sounds a bit dangerous....
but again - they are great for footlocking ! :-)

Yeah, it sounded like a horrible idea, but i keep seeing it advertised in TCIA magazine, shows a green-stiched eye rope calling it "climbing line" and shows a hitchclimber system runnin it. I thought it was completely improper for doubled rope climbing so i didnt know if anyone even knew if it was different construction, or just static line.

Thanks guys

If it's the neon green line then it's definitely one of HTP ropes, all sizes come in that color, maybe the 7/16". Could be a great work line.

Where is the line between static ropes that are not recommended for climbing and semi-static ropes like tachyon
PI and the like? I've been wrenching a bit on KM111 max 13mm. My hitch advances so much smoother on it than Tachyon.

Tachyon is 2.2% stretch KM111 max is 2.7% So why is tachyon safer?

I have been working off of a static line for a while now. I love it but it does take a little bit to get use to. I will note that I do not use a traditional tree harrness anymore, I have been useing my rope access harrness (Croll Fast). As for the fall, I have my climbing system setup to minimize a fall (it would be more like a swing then a fall). Also keep in mind unless you you have a static line tied off/ run over a strong lead (has no give) you are not going to have that strong shock durring a fall. Most likely the canopy will give enough to absorb the shock load.

Thanks guys. I got some vortex, workin great, and I like the larger diameter, especially by Friday. I use various single lineteqniques like floating' a pulley, secrect weapon, etc, and for acces, but i only perform tree work using a doubled rope system. Havent tried anything like the rope-wrench yet, but my co-worker, Micheal Blankenship, uses the wrench and makes it look easy.
