how long a flat bed do I need to carry a mini track lift, like 90' reach?

tossing around ideas for my next investment. I'd like to find a 2000ish 7.3 F550 with a flat bed that's long enough to carry my future spider lift when I can no longer climb often, preferably a dump bed. For those who already have a lift, what's the minimum length of flat bed do i need? I can see the truck also pulls my low tilt trailer for my stumper or mini skid. I know one member here uses a very long bed, like 20'. If possible, I try not to go that long. 14' is kind my sweet spot in terms of maneuverability. Thx. Erwin

Suggestions with a 20' deck standard trailer...

Thx for the suggestion, BUT, I'd like to use the bed of the future truck for the lift. the trailer will be for the mini and stumper.

A dump bed F550 won't be hauling a 11-12klb 90' spider lift very happily.

In terms of bed length hauling a 22' lift on a 14' bed won't be particularly practical, especially if you're trying to pull a trailer.

that bed looks like 8' long. so 14' bed can probably take a bigger lift, maybe a 75'. I get it 12K LB is too much for a 550, so maybe I should plan for a smaller unit, like 75 or 83. over here in st. louis, we don't have trees that's way over 80'.

this is the kind of lift I have in mind to buy when I'm ready. Now, just getting a flat bed truck that can be used for this in the future.

"The ruggedized CMC 83HD+ Arbor Pro Lightweight 8,500 lbs
Additional features such as ability to "truck mount" this self-propelled lift, on an under CDL chassis (min 17,000 GVW to 19,000 GVW recommended), allows dual use of the lift, as a rear mount forestry bucket truck, due to the turret being mounted on the rear of the lift and the ability to enter a 36" gate with ONE lift. This is the only lift in the world capable of doing this feat. The 83HD+ Arbor Pro can easily replace two lifts for the price of one."

Erwin, the CMC isn't the only lift who can do this. In fact, if you want to make it do it, might as well look into the specs of bed height and most importantly width that you will order, if you don't order the truck with the lift.
I will provide you with names of owners of Easy Lift you can talk to and get their feel and feedback. If you dig in here, you will also find some interesting stories on us, and on Easy Lift.
1 comparison point between 87-48AJ AND 101-48AJ vs 83 or 92 CMC: Horizontal reach. Easy Lift: 48 feet WITH 265lbs in basket; CMC: 46 feet WITH 175lbs in basket.

Erwin, you're sold... THere is nothing I can say that will make you change your mind or see things for what they are. This is a custom made truck, as well as the custom made trailer sold with the CMC. If it is not custom made, it is not doing the "truck mount". The outriggers will hit the side of standard width truck or trailer bed before they touch the ground, period.

slow down. I'm not "sold" to anybody. I'm merely here to learn what truck I should buy that can do when I thought it can do. I'm open to CMC, easy lift, treupen or whatever they're out there. I'm not seeing that I'll use it as a "bucket truck" although I'd like to. Primary purpose is to carry the lift to the job site. Again, as I stated, I'm NOT ready to buy a lift now since I still prefer climbing. I'm planning for my future 5 years down the road when I either don't want to climb as much or not able to.

UP equip, if u have the answer that I'm looking for here, please advice and I thank you. I'm not ready now to decide which brand of lift I'll be getting, so save your time on that front. I need to know the length of the bed I should buy. If there is a clearance issue with the out riggers when I do want to use it as a "bucket truck" I can at least modify the bed or have a new one made. But, if I buy a truck that has a bed that's too short, I'll be screwed. Simply that. Erwin

I don't have the exact specs since it was customer made, but I do have their names and contact information. PM if you want to get in touch with them as I won't put their contact info out.
