homemade adjustable SRT basal anchor

I put this together from gear that was laying around the house, what are your thoughts, concerns or opinions ?

I like the idea of a delta link on the lower carabiner, I was just making something useful out of gear that is gathering dust rather than spend money on more gear.

Nick Arraya and I worked out the details for my adjustable base anchor a while ago.

Coated Tenex for the sling, uncoated for the Prusik. It's long enough to choke a 6' diameter trunk but very compact for storage.

In actual use I always tied a stopper in the tail of the Tenex choker underneath the prusik just like I have for the Mule knot above the rack.

If there were a concern about compromising the gate on the biner that's on the adjuster I'd simply install a screw link.

Let's see it tom, sounds good.

I would take one of the carabiners out of the equation. Girth a large arborist ring at the end of the 16 strand instead of the carabiner. Then you can pass the prusik through the ring and add in the second carabiner. I like the adjuster prusik to have longer legs to it which will allow for a more secure cinch when loaded. You can connect whatever belay device you want to work with to the carabiner on the prusik and go from there.

You could also just use the large eye of the 16 strand without anything in it, and that way you could pass the entire prusik through that eye with the carabiner still in the prusik. Tie in a daisy chain on the tail of the 16 strand as a stopper for the adjuster.

I see numerous base anchor setups in which the line passes through the cinch at a 90 degree angle (vertical). I like to have a more positive choke (almost 180 degrees) by using trunk wraps. This can take a lot of the load off the anchor, and also put the climb line in a more desirable location.

Nice setup. Simple and safe.
And great with the Danish "hold fast" on the ropebag! You guys should speak more Danish ;-)
