Historic Tree Preservation, Virginia, Nov. 30

The National Park Service is putting on a Historic Tree Preservation Workshop in Fredericksburg, VA on November 30 to December 2, 2010.
Note that the meeting announcement states that "no previous tree care knowledge is required", so that at least some of the presentations will likely be pretty basic.
I'll be talking a little about tree biology and Guy Meilleur will be presenting practical information to conserve trees. As this is an NPS production, there will be some information about tree care as part of larger cultural conservation and preservation.

My understanding, treehumper, and I'm not on the "inside" here, is that the National Park Service puts one of these "big" workshops one every few years. I'm involved in this upcoming one in Virginia and was on the program for ones in 2007 in Washington and 1992 in Morristown, NJ. The participants on the earlier ones were primarily NPS site managers and on-the-ground workers with NPS plus some state, municipal, and commercial folks, and I expect the same here.
And for taitree, sure, I expect that we should be able to go as deep as there is interest. For me, I try not to get in too far over my head, but that does happen sometimes!

That sounds very interesting,if one has a little more experience will you be delving a little deeper? I think i would love that!!

[/ QUOTE ]I would too. There will be nonarborists there so I am told not to get waay advanced. However, my portions will portray all kinds of work done on big old trees, so it will be as advanced as the specs and the work had to be to optimize the tree. So yes, a-delving we will go!

What part of Ridgefield NJ does it have to be in? Somewhere on the bus route?

How about downtown NYC, say lower east side. We have some beautiful old elms down here. Ridgefield works for me too.
I was there yesterday. Would of looked you up but couldn't find "treehumper" in the phone book. lol

Thanks TLH for the vote of confidence!
And Adkpk, would love to do one in the Lower East Side. A good chance to get a Yonah Schimmel's knish and celery soda!
My wife is originally from Williamsburg, just across the bridge in Brooklyn, and we get down to NYC once or twice a year.
