Helmets for summer

I was looking for some feedback from you guys on what would be the best choice of helmet for hot weather. I currently use a kask with the smoke visor and ear pro. A very comfortable helmet but it's hard for me to judge how cool it is because it's black... I got it for Christmas, and was great for the cold weather but now it's just soaking up the sun. So I've been trying to decide if I should just get another one in a lighter color or a Petzl Alveo vent. These are just the two I've looked at most and think I'm most interested in, but I'd appreciate some input on what works for you guys.

I've just started tucking a bandana out the back of the helmet to keep the sun off the back of my neck. I remember someone posting about the Sunbrero, a wide hat brim that goes on a helmet.

Anyone try that? How did it work for climbing and where can you get them by mail order if it worked?

I'd stay clear from the Alveo and if you go with petzl I'd get the vertex vent. I had the alveo and the ear muff slot cracked in about 6 to 8 months. The Alveo is really light weight at the sarfice of durablity. I belive it is a light duty helmet, may be good for a rec climber? No experence with Kask...

Live in barbados and the white kask is what works for me. I only climb in the heat and this helmet is good. For me comfort is important. I also have the black but I only wear that when it's overcast and rainy. Also the white is better visibility in the canopy.

Swing and Tommy, you guys should get a suspension helmet like the Vertex or Ecrin Roc (and go with white). I know the Kask is comfy, but the foam pretty much sits on your skull with no room for air flow. The suspension style helmets allow for that, which is better IMO. Done a bit of climbing in the tropics, not as much as Swing though.

Hey Tom I am headed up your way to visit Eric at the end of the month so I will give The Vent a whirl, this heat can be brutal. Only started wearing a helmet a year and a half ago after a hard hit nearly had me concussed ( did over three years without one ), and so I only know Kask, it was the visor that made me get it and I do like the fit.

I've actually been really happy with the kask when I go to hawaii. Prefer the fit of kask over the peztl and haven't noticed any great difference when working in the heat... my .02

SA for what it's worth I am accustomed to the heat and have a high tolerance for working in it. The Kask is not bad heat wise and I do like the fit, the petzl's always seemed to fit high up which I did not fancy. I am more apt to wear the helmet if it fits good. We don't have safety police. I wear it for the protection and I get a lot of fleck for it. But my skin is thick and I don't care what others think, I am a pro and try to be as professional as I can.

What just because I don't post everyday everyone forgets about me? :(
Hey swing I would also like to meet you while you're in town. send me a pm or have Tom or Ted give me a call when you guys are going to hang. Oh and I have a vertex vent, a kask, and most recently bought the alveo vent and love it so far. I always wear white helmets to keep cool and I also use a halo. When it's real hot the halo soaked with cool water is a dream. I think tom has a point about the suspension being a little bit cooler but I don't have any complaints with the alveo vent. Plus it doesn't put a big x in my hair like the suspension helmets lol.
