Heat exhaustion or heat stroke?

Addenda: Don't know what they feed some of the animals these days, but we've become a lot more choosy about what milk we do buy. Some of the chemical/ whatever-the-H-it-is fed herds result in milk that is truly awful puky stuff if you haven't tried anything else. We buy an organic type from free range grazed animals. Costs a heap more but the taste is worth it. Dairy in the UK and EEC countries is really quite good too.
We buy organic milk. I think it tastes better. I think it's due to the ultra-pasteurization. Since organic dairies are fewer and they ship further, they ultra high temperature (UHT) pasteurize their milk; 280°F for 2 seconds. Regular milk is normally high temperature short time (HTST) pasteurized; 160°F for 15 seconds. UHT kills everything that can spoil the milk. It's supposedly shelf stable without refrigeration for 6 months. I know for sure I've never poured out any organic milk because it smelled or tasted funky.

Good to know!

I was asking people on IG what they take to hydrate during the how months, and most came back with either Liquid IV or coconut water or pedialite. What do you guys take?

I tried this yesterday:

I have been using (and supplying to our staff) Sqwincher for years. I tried Liquid IV for the first time yesterday (had a crane operator who loves it) and it did seem to give a temporary boost, but I still felt terrible, maybe even worse than usual, when I cooled down last evening.

This is an issue that is near and dear to my heart...and hands, lats, pecs, quads, abs. You name it and it has probably cramped up at some point...once I was suffering from full body cramping. Was getting dangerous and on the verge of calling 911. The only thing that brought me back was Vega electrolites...after that day I never leave home without my Vega or Bio Steel, as well as, 150 mg of Magnesium in the am and then again at lunch. Since starting this routine I habe not suffered the same fate. Also we always keep emergency electrolytes and magnesium in the truck.

Easier to get employees to "refill" and "refuel" than to get them to take "breaks", exorcism if i don't break.

I ask them if they would get mad at their car for running out of fuel. I ask if it makes sense to fill up when the warning light comes on or the car is sputtering, rather than when it's easy to refill along the way, before that point.

I will have to look into that one. Cramping isn’t my problem though so much as headaches are. After a hot day outside, invariably I end up with a terrible headache while cooling down.

I like this product from High 5: https://www.wiggle.com/high5-zero-hydration-tablets-20-tabs

About 50 cents per tablet, into 20 ounces of water, and the sleeve is easy to pack in your lunch pail.

Similar ingredients/ratios as your ryno power Hydration Fuel, just a bit more dilute (isotonic) at the 1 tab/20 ounce dose and no gastric emptying issues, even in the last few days heat with long sleeves and face mask doing PHC applications.

Water follows salt.....so indeed electrolytes are really important, and what I learned from sports science in past years, was as you train in hotter temps, your electrolyte drink needs to be more Hypotonic (dilute) so the drink can move quickly from the stomach and into the cells (gastric emptying).

IF the electrolyte mix is too concentrated (Hypertonic) the water from nearby cells actually move into the stomach (water follows salt) and causes more dehydration.

So when/if you folks have any stomach aches after taking in some electrolyte, likely you need to dilute the mix with more water.

The hotter the temps, the more dilute the mix should be. In general.

Lots of "water only" in heat can cause you to lose/flush salts from the body as well and not the best either.

We all have different sweat rates, depending on fitness and adaptation to the heat, so find what works for you, everyone.
