GriGri 2 Recall

As of Monday, June 20, 2011, Petzl has issued a RECALL FOR REPLACEMENT FOR ALL GRIGRI 2 assisted braking belay devices (D14 2O, D14 2G, D14 2B) from serial number 10326 through 11136, sold after January 1, 2011.

Replacement GRIGRI 2’s for end-users will begin shipping immediately. End-users who own affected GRIGRI 2’s will receive priority.

I just got the email... so I'm not sure what the issue was that forced the recall... but I know the rock climbers have been less than thrilled with the new design since it hit shelves in March. I have also heard firsthand reports that it isn't engaging on smaller diameters, but again I don't know for sure.

Crap. I just bought one.

Better go check the serial number. Is it a full recall or just the ones within the numbers?

According to Petzl... "if you jack the handle too hard the device stays open and won't function correctly..."

The new version will feature a beefed-up handle.
