I like to hand throw as much as possible but there are times in my rescue work where a big slingshot is needed to thread the needle and save a lot of time and effort. I've realized I've been getting lazy firing my Big Shot, with some extra focus I'm getting excellent results lately.
Second-timer, I knew exactly where I wanted my line set in a wide-crowned tree.
For this one a super dense forest canopy, low visibility to the cat and where I wanted my anchor above it. Using binoculars and firing from a yard I was able to make it happen. The throw was a couple feet right and above where it needed to be. My accuracy was good but it was essentially a blind throw. The highest part of the upper redirect (on the basal anchor) had sketchy qualities. I did my usual bounce test but was not satisfied, I rigged a 4:1 MA and loaded it hard. I could not get a crack, nothing, it held. I had built in redundancy if the upper stuff failed the line would slide into a stronger hold. If the anchor had possibilities of catastrophic failure dropping me to the ground it would have been a no go.
