friction cord not grabbing

I am having an issue with getting my hitch cord to grab, I am using armorprus mainly, and its ok, but HRC and ocean poly wont grab, running sterling scion, might try on velocity and vortex, also doesnt matter the hitch I run, and if I can get it to grab, Its near impossible to make it release, tried distel, prusik, and a VT, gonna try a few others once it warms up, although, i can get the HRC to grab on my bluestreak lanyard.

any ideas?

Have any Stirling RIT 10mm. That was my favorite on that rope.

you can add wraps to your hitch as well. I almost always used a 5 wrap Michoacán.

another consideration is how much weight you are putting in the system. As your expereice grows you will distribute your weight better between tree and system. This will give you better consistency. So too will using a friction saver or similar

I dont have any RIT, I have HRC, ocean poly, Flex, beeline, and armorprus, the flex might work better, but its on a lanyard right now, maybe I should try that 10mm beeline

Yep...If your hitch aint grabbing very well simply put a half twist on one of the eyes.. If that's not enough do the same to the other eye...There are variables that make a hitch grab differently on any given day and this is just one way to fine tune your hitch from day to day....

thanks, and true, I have noticed, humidity and even temperature can affect how it works, which isnt fun

In my experience if my climb line or hitchchord has sap on them, they either bite like crazy or don’t bite at all.... ran beeline and wasn’t a fan, too fickle.... the ocean was similar but less temperamental.... Right now I’m liking EpiChord and RIT. The RIT can be a touch fast however.... if this is your lanyard setup, it could be your rope is saturated in grime.

somehow, my setup is pretty clean, it might just be me not having it set perfect

I’ll occasionally get some slip on my go to distel hitch, but when retied it grabs fine. I think it comes down to having it neat and tidy.

I find, (which I believe I read on this forum and unfortunately can't give appropriate credit too) that by fully extending your hitch cord and rubbing it on some bark will help clean off the sap, as well as, rough it up a little and may help it grab better

I think I will try this

What’s your setup? Where is the rope anchored and in what manner?

Stupid question but you’re not trying to use just a hitch on SRT, are you?

nope, not just a hitch on SRT, I have a rope wrench, when im on SRT its a basal anchor and just straight over a branch, harness side is my hitch, connected with a scaffold knot, or a sewn eye, on each end of the cord, onto my carabiner and hitchclimber, DRT I run a frictionsaver most of the time, then clipped back to the hitchclimber
