Position Available: Forest Pest Outreach and Survey Coordinator
Classification: Part-time, Non-Exempt
Department: Research, Community Trees
General Summary: The Forest Pest Outreach and Survey Program (FPOSP) is a cooperative program with USDA Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) designed to:
a. Produce a comprehensive, coordinated, region-wide forest pest outreach and detection program for Illinois;
b. Create and build upon existing volunteer network programs for outreach and pest detection throughout the state, especially in the northeastern portion;
c. Establish and engage a network of individuals and organizations capable of responding to a new forest pest in the future; and
d. Educate as many targeted audiences as possible about introduced forest pests.
The program is expected to last one year.
Job Qualifications
Previous Training and Experience
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in science required; or five to seven years equivalent experience in lieu of degree. Work experience in forestry, entomology, pathology, or arboriculture required. Excellent organizational, communication, and people and independent working skills required. Resourcefulness, creativity, and enthusiasm are highly desirable.
Physical/Mental Requirements
Clear thought, visual acuity, and manual dexterity needed. Ability to use word processing, database, spreadsheet, computer programs, and proficiency with internet. Good verbal and written communication skills essential. Valid Illinois driver's license, with clean driving record and annual Motor Vehicle Report required. Ability to independently schedule, travel to and from and participate in remote meetings and events required.
Working Conditions
1. Work is performed both indoors in office and public settings and outdoors under varying conditions.
