Elm survivor in Massachusetts..is it lonely?

That’s awesome. Has there been studies to tell how significant distance is for DED prevention?

I wonder what the outcome of planting an American chestnut in a similar location would be.

My father has a 50 acre farm in MD. This was a lone elm on his tract of land and no others this in sight. This tree was in pristine condition in 2019. I removed some vines that had completely enveloped the adjacent gum tree and also the canopy which was growing into canopy of elm(stems are going to get platform for osprey nest project) . In spring of 2020 it only pushed out a handful of leaves at the base of a couple of lower limbs, epicormic like grow, no buds on branch tips bloomed at all. This was a beautiful, big old elm -we were devistated
