Elm branch gone bad?

Looks like they may have grafted. Cool. :) Still early to prune elms here.. Do you have Dutch elm disease up there? I'd imagine its probably pretty cool already there
 
That's a great photo. I've been taking a good number of photos during certain dismantles or prunes to create an interesting portfolio for clients to see when explaining issues they may have in their trees.

I am wondering if we are looking at a limb that was injured more than once in the same area. I was zooming in on the wound wood (wall 4) but couldn't see clearly enough what was going on...seems like an injury on the top of the branch (with lots of heartwood) resulted in callous tissue forming, followed by a crack later down the road. Soo cool looking. Thanks for sharing!
