On November 17th Eddie Barley passed from this world into the next. Eddie was a tree climber in Charlotte area for many years having worked for many companies in the area including Heartwood Tree Service, Cadieu Tree Experts, Mcneary's Arborists, Davey Tree , E.G. Barley Tree Surgery(his own outfit) and others that I don't recall. Eddie was an awesome climber- smooth and meticulous. He was a master rigger in a time when nobody that we knew had a block or sling or lowering device. He had a way of never looking like he was exerting himself while producing. He freely shared information and techniques to others less experienced.
Eddie grew up in sort of a tough neighborhood. His Mom was Japanese- alot of kids he ran with affectionatley called him "Chink". When we worked together at Heartwood we called him "Eddie Barlasaki, Tree Ninja".
He had injured his arm a few years ago and wasn't able to climb like he used to and was doing some small jobs and landscaping. After a brief stint in Santa Monica(too intense for Eddie according to his sister) and then was living in Northern Idaho. He was fixin to move back to Charlotte when he passed due to the dearth of work up there in Id.
Any way I don't know if any of you guys knew Eddie but He was a good man and he is gone now. He is survived by his Mom Makiko Barley, sister Lois , son Forrest, and a nephew. He was 48.
