Dog leash with extra eye.

I'm using a modified Weiss Walkie leash to walk my sister's Bernese poodle (Bernadoodle). He's a sweet dog, about 70 pounds. On a regular leash he tugs a lot, but with the WW leash he walks well.

I modified the WW design to add a second hand loop to control him more closely (like when he spots a deer or wants to go after another dog as we're passing).

To add the eye I tried just splicing in the tail end of a cut off eye. That didn't work at all. Too much distance from the dog, and pretty stiff and bulky. For the version shown, I removed the core from the ends of a section of double braid, then sewed and whipped them to the main leash. Not exactly life support, but it's for a 70 pound dog on a leash.

I'm not happy with how the sewing and whipping looks. The ends of the loop stick out from the whipping, and catch on the metal ring when you pull the line through it to put the leash on the dog. Any suggestions on how to attach the second eye that would look cleaner and smoother, without being stiff and bulky would be appreciated.

The ice formation at the water's edge is pretty cool. Zoom in on it.

Using a double braid, extract the core where you want the loop, make a one loop ultra sling, make a three pass locked Brummell, and then make another, then bury and make the end loop.

I just make the leash longer then tie an alpine butterfly close to dog (takes 2.5-3' rope). Better yet, just use a short leash. Does your sister walk the dog or does the dog walk her? People leashes are longer than dog leashes. Slip style ring leashes can be made so short that you dont really need a second handle. The one handle is close to dog.

I have also made some prusik loops from 5-6mm cord to use as an adjustable handle.

Could you draw a quick sketch of this? I don't totally get it, but it sounds like it would be mint.... We just got a mastiff, he's over 80 lbs at 7 months old.....

It would be an inline eye, a short piece of core could be inserted in the cover side of the eye, and some cover over the core side. The tails of the short cover section can be woven thru the brummels.

Looked up the Weiss Walkie style leashes. Here is a mock up that might work without any special splicing. Just needs a small accessory biner. Unclip when they want a longer leash. Prob take some trial and error or good dog measurements to dial in correct length. I always thought you put a chest harnesses on a dog when you WANT them to pull.

If the end of the leash is attached to a ring on the chest of the harness the dog will be turned to the side if they try to pull. Most dogs don't like that and will learn not to pull ime. If you attach the leash to the back or top of the harness dogs will definitely keep pulling.

Dang bro, I never knew that....... Trying it today, thanks
