CTPA Compartmentalization workshop May 20, 2010

The organizers have been doing some tomography at the site, followed by tree dissection. I'm hoping we can do some real-time comparisons. Whether or not that happens, we should be able to look at boundaries in wood and the how/when/why they form. Of course, this sort of thing is "performing without a net" in that we never know for sure what we will see. That helps make it fun!

What did the real-time comparisons reveal?

The "real-time" was a little less than real, but my verdict was "OK, not great". Bob Marra of the CT Ag Expt Station is working with a grad student on this, not so much for arboriculture as it turns out, but to estimate carbon storage (or carbon not stored) in stems. Folks seemed to enjoy it, though.
