Maximum side reach is over 50 ft up to about 50-60ft, then it decreases. This lift offers more reach over larger envelope than Altec 60/70 with elevator. I am almost never under the lift unless at maximum height just like any other unit. I have worked over room additions, garages, sun rooms, even small houses with ease. I thought the Altec rear mount was awesome every time I used it, but this unit seems even better.

You will miss your bucket truck. Wires, bucket and trees you can reach from any road or driveway you are pulling a machine off a trailer when you could of just pulled in much quicker setup. sold mine when I first got the spider, but a year later went and had to buy another bucket truck. Both have their places. The most important factors when considering a spiderlift is will it fit through a gate, height, side reach, ground psi. It is MUCH less costly to maintain a bucket then a spider. Use the bucket where you can and the spider where you only have to.

Have you factored in the variables when you say it's more exensive to run a spider? One of the big advantages I see of having a lift is not having a CDL driver and no annual truck inspections. I guess you must still inspect the lift.

If you could only make one purchase, as a first buy, which you you do? Seems the crawler would get you more places, maybe with a better niche and maybe with less hastle than a CDL truck, no?

I think he reversed that, tracked lifts are not more expensive then a bucket to run, way cheaper, mine runs on $7 a day on diesel, no plate validations as the trailer plates good for life, no tires, brakes etc. to change, the reason I went with my lift over the others is no computers, parts are easily accessible simple electronics and hydraulics. My old bucket we were putting in $200 in gas a day. The savings alone in fuel are substantial. That's $4000 a month I'm saving in fuel!

I think he just had the wrong lift.

Additionally the lift is MAJOR selling point when estimating. Customers love the fact you are not putting weight of bucket truck on their drive or lawn. And that no one will be climbing trees on their property as the lift is so much safer. Older people especially like this.
Yes, it does take a few more minutes to unload, but we are not in any race to get finished. One year with the lift and we are purchasing another. It is all bout being flexible and what works for you.

I remember just a few years ago how everyone did not care to purchase a lift...they would rather climb. Now they are selling like hotcakes!!!!

Yep you are absolutely right on all those points! The way this years going another lift may be in my plans for the next year or 2!

How long have you guys had your lifts? By your comments I'm guessing less than a few years. Here is one example. We replaced our track drive sprockets last week to the tune of $824 each. They last a few years. We have had our machine since 2006.
Matdand, yes I'd purchase the spider first before a bucket. Any company without one isn't taking advantage of the advancements available today to get this work done

After owning my own rear mount bucket, I guess I can now say they both have ups and downs. The biggest downs of the spider was not being able to go over center, and the tuepen constantly breaking down. When I was there I'd guess he'd spent 15-20k on unnecessary break downs. Tuepen greased the wire loom to get it into the boom from factory, turns out the grease eats the covering on the wires. 8000$ for them to replace. Not under warranty. Multiple mercury switches for the levelnig devise. Numerous cracks on the under carriage and other issues.

The newer other brands seem better. Less electronics. Demo some. Looking back I shoulda bought a tracked lift. Then again I find climbing to be most effiecent for my setup.

Not poo-pooing the tracked machine principle, but that Altec tower will have a crushing range chart over the tracked machine. (when you can get the tower near the project tree)

Get Carnevale to send you a pic with upper boom max side reach: lower boom max vertical height. I'd be curious to see the difference.

Mangoes I've owned a 60' and an elevator, and now own the easy lift like in the pic, it is by far way better for my clientele, and unless I go back into utility line clearing won't own another bucket truck. These lifts are very well built and will have mine paid off by September ( or sooner) I've got a waiting list of companies who want to sub me and the lift out. I do a lot of hard access jobs and island work and this machine is awesome! Try getting a bucket between a house like this! Or on a medium sized barge. Just sharing my experiences with the lift, again it suits my work and working area. Might not be for all, but with EAB and sketchy trees, it's the ticket and it's safe!

Nice pics Deevo.

Just to reiterate - I'm not denying the tracked, compact lifts are an excellent tool. Over the coming years they will be a valuable tool when dealing with fatal EAB infestations and HO's who delay the timely attention to their tree liabilities.

It would be a big selling tool if one of the sales companies did an overlay of an XT60 range diagram with a comparable tracked machine. Just to help tree pros relate to something their used to.
