contract climbing pay

from the looks of it, guess I need to get my ducks in a row, sell my dump truck, buy a older grapple truck, move to Portland, get my Oregon contractors license, up my insurance from 1 mil and take the isa test. not in that specific order. hood river looks nice. 2.5 hrs from Astoria (fishing port) 1.5 hrs to Portland and pop. 8,ooo on the Columbia river.

That sounds like a fabulous plan! And it seems like it took you all of thirty seconds to come up with it.

I predict great things in your future.

it will take a while but who knows, maybe it will come to fruition. Just noticed Ryan Cafferky is in Hood River . Seems like he's the man with the plan. It would be unbecoming to step on a good mans toes and copy cat. Anyway I'm sure he could smoke me as a climbing arborist, but I'll find a locale that works, maybe the other side of the I-5

I am just curious as to why one would have and advertise a tree business and not climb or plan on having a climber on staff anyway. Isn't that technically why most tree services are needed in the first place? Because alooooot of the time trees need to be climbed to be properly dealt with? And beside that, HOLY HELL!!! Seriously though? People are getting paid in some places upward of 500$ a DAY? Where?!?! That would be pretty nifty to work two days and make round about what we make out here a week... o_O SHIT!

I might be wrong, but it does not seem to me that Ryan would ever be afraid of competition, or that you should avoid living in a place that might be absolutely perfect for you just because there is already one guy there who does the same work that you want to do.

I don't know how Ryan feels about having partners, but maybe if you two became friends, you could work together when the jobs are big enough to warrent having two climbers.

Those are my thoughts on the matter. Maybe you could send Ryan a private message and see how he feels about it. I understand what you mean about not wanting to step on his toes, or maybe making him regret his participation here, but I'd hate to see you kiss off what might be a perfect situation for you just on speculation about what is going on in another man's mind. Let Ryan speak his mind.

Good luck with all of this, I truly would love to see it work out in the end.

We (my family) are planning to drive up the Oregon coast and around Portland then down the i5 after shrimp season and check out half a dozen places or so.
We're also interested in Seattle area. Our daughter is only ten months but we are in the mindset that we would like to live somewhere close to a city (but not in) to access museums, plays, music, educational programs, international airport, etc.
Hood River might work but the wind may not be alright with my spouse. She claims it gives her headaches (happy wife happy life, right?)
I really wanted Santa Barbara but the price of housing is high and my lady is anti LA area.
She wants to stay in Humboldt until spring now but that will likely change several times over the course of a month.
Overall I'm just interested in living somewhere with a good quality of life that I can make 60k+ a yr. Fishing is great but the time away from home is not great for family

I wouldn't consider myself competition really. Ryan is decades beyond my experience.

Decades? I ain't that old. I'm one of the old guys at the comp but seriously I've only been at this game since 97...

Hood River is not a good contact climbing market. Portland is where the money is though thanks to my big mouth and helping others get in the game, the low hanging fruit isn't quite as plentiful as it once was. Hit me up when you are going to be around.
