contract climber or Groundman $200.00 a day

You must carry your own insurance!!!! Have your own equipment!!! such as but not limited to ropes, saws rigging gear, climbing gear, lowering devices.

What market are you in? That would have to be one desperate climber to show up with all of those tools, their own insurance, and not get paid much of anything. In my market, I don't show up for a contract climbing gig even for an hour unless I am getting more than you are offering for a day. I learned my lesson about not having minimum charges. I would show up for a day of climbing, get the whole job done in three hours and not make any money while the company owner made out like a bandit.

I agree with Ryan. If you add up all the costs of saws, climbing gear, rigging gear, fuel to get to the job and insurance and subtract that from your 200 dollar a day rate, what is left? 100? or less?
If you pay 200 a day, you are basically paying the climber 15 dollars an hour,( after he subtracts all his expenses) probably to climb a real nasty tree that none of your guys can do!!

Anything else you need done for those 2 hundos? Walk the dog? Wash the truck at the end of the day? Drop some flowers for the missus?

Let me guess. If they're a real go-getter, they get to keep the wood too?

In my market that is all we can afford to pay an average climber. we provide all rigging gear, all chainsaws except climbing saw, and insurance though.

Soooo, I guess this position is still open? Contract climber and ground guy paid the same??...not bad if you are a ground guy though.

Royce, One should not assume what one does not know. I have two men that contract climb for me and I myself, Very efficient and intelligent individuals. They were started out at $200 a day and at times make quite more. Every situation varies. This is simply a way for me to find more individuals that have a will, to contract under me for longer periods of time. If you desire something else then go for it.

if you are an employee tired of making ? dollars This should be a fair offer. I understand every situation is different; also understand from a business owners aspect after you pay a man an hourly rate, workers comp, state and federal tax taken out. It comes out to be better for the individual doing the work, the person is able to write off his insurance, gas, tools and other necessities for the job. I dont need a superstar climber, all I need is a honest hard working (preferably young) individual that has a moderate skill base and tired of having a boss.

so essentially you are looking for some one preferably young person to take advantage of. Or perhaps you may be doing them a favor for ponying up their tools, and ins so you bear none of the responsibility of having a employee.

In no way would it be taking advantage of anyone. Ill break it down for you. $1500 dollars for workers comp, ROUGHLY $1500 to $2000 for gear. so the individual has roughly $4000 in overhead WHICH CAN ALL BE WROTE OFF ON TAXES! THey will make $40,000. a year if they work 200 days. And thats for a basic groundsman!!! YAll need to get with the program. I was making $12 an hour when I started out back 10 years ago and stayed with a company for 3 years and would have jumped at the chance for someone to pay me that kind of money when I was just starting out!! Im not looking for established tree services. Or already established contract climbers. Just individuals that have a love for the industry and are tired of making $12 to $15 an hour.

IF it took 2 men 4 hours to remove a tree, rig it out, and set it by the street. that would be $40 dollars an hour! I apparently and am honestly missing something here. if anyone would like to give positive feedback on what they pay there groundsman for a day im all ears, Sorry if this has offended anyone

A very good lead climber can gross that working for me!!!! Without all the extra overhead...we must pay too much?!

another thing to keep in mind is the market here in small suburban east, georgia a good day might be around a $1000. after paying 3 men at 200 a day doesn't leave much for a business owner.

Georgia doesn't require a company to have WC if there are less than 3 employees. Essentially a person could claim to be an independant contract climber that is self employed and not have to have WC, saving himself $1500/yr. Not sure how it would fly if he had an accident though (Hello Ken Nugent???)!
