climbing off BKT Jib

On my bucket truck we have a 2000lb material handeler and some times I use if for a TIP. I use a friction saver and put it around the pipe that the jib rotates on. What are your thoughts on this and does anyone else ever do this?

Why not putthe FSthrough the attatchment point for your lanyard when your in the bucket? Is it in a bad position for thatand the jib gives you a more unobstructed pathfor your gear?

Would be interesting to know what the safety factor on a 2,000 pound material handler is. If its 5:1, then maybe you have a 10k tie-in point, with a 10:1 safefty factor for climbing systems giving you a 1000 pound TIP. Consult the manufacturer. Has your company owned the truck from new, knowing the history? Is there a load limiter on the handler?

"Why not use the bucket" if you just can't reach that last cut or that one branch but if you raise your bucket up over the tree you could have a climber cut it, and be able to raise him up close to the cut so there is no down time on with throw balls and setting ropes. Clip in and go. I know its not the safest way to do things I just thought someone else is doing this to.
