Climbers' Forum @ the Baumpflegetage in Augsburg

Climbers\' Forum @ the Baumpflegetage in Augsburg

On the 21 and 22 of April the Climbers' Forum will be held as a part of the Deutsche Baumpflegetage in Augsburg, Germany.

It's going to be a full on two days packed with talks and demos on a wide range of topics from health issues, techniques, equipment, trees and work safety.

As this year it's 25 years since Al Shigo first spoke in Germany we decided it'd be nice to have a half day dedicated to the historical development of tree climbing techniques.

German health and safety will be discussing their newest statistics on accidents and near misses in tree care.

A talk on the use of splices in tree care and issues in regards to certification.

Andi Detter will be talking about some of the work they've been doing on anchor point strength.

There will also be practical demos on:

system configuration considerations, contrasting and comparing industrial rope access and tree climbing techniques.

the use of counter balance techniques in aerial rescue.

the configuration of access systems and of the tools and techniques employed.

And that's only the Climbers' Forum! There is also the conference running parallel to it that continues until Thu

Apart from that...

the trade show has become even larger in the new venue that's being used for the first time this year.

And you get to meet lots of cool arb folk... bit of a bonus, really!

I agree, wish I could go. Looks like a proper event for enthusiastic professionals.

That sounds great Mark. I am really looking forward to it.

Re: Climbers\' Forum @ the Baumpflegetage in Augsbu

Well, that was a very busy week... new venue, big change for all involved.

What I thought was great was that we were able to use the structure of the building for the practical demos. This tied the climbing demos much more closely into the whole conference. The crowd was great: Three hours in the sun, very concentrated and well into it.

What was also good was that for a change we actually had a functioning PA allowing everybody to hear what was going on. If you plan an event I would really recommend hiring a good quality PA as soon as you are dealing with a crowd of any size... nothing more frustrating than knowing that you can shout all you want, but the people at the back won't hear you anyway.

This was the location of the demos in the forecourt of the conference hall, right next to the entrance

Set-up. Pics are by Knut Foppe, by the way. I'm not sure what was so funny about setting up a tripod as to make me grin...

Great event, great crowd. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Tree people? Gotta love 'em! It's a privilege to be part of this.

Finding a stage that works is always a challenge. You had a good one!

Is that the same building as when I was over? I don't remember that structure.

Re: Climbers\' Forum @ the Baumpflegetage in Augsbu

Tom,

it's not the same place. The other venue had really become too small, so in that respect the move has been really positive. Also from an infrastructure point of view.. here we have access to a 10'000 lumen projector for the formal presentations. Makes a bit of a difference if you don't have to explain to the people what they are supposed to be seeing in the photos.

Mind you, I think if you were to ask the dealers what their feelings were, you might find them a bit less enthusiastic. Whereas before they were in the middle of it all, now they're in their own hall. But I think they'll come round to it in time..
