Tree Climber/Foreman

Almstead Tree Climbers work with the latest equipment and serve as team members on a tree care crew with the primary responsibility of climbing and assisting the crew foreman in the performance of all tree care services. The crew foreman must be able to identify native and introduced tree and shrub species and have a working knowledge of each species' characteristics. They manage and motivate their crews to create and maintain positive employee morale. They maintain excellent client relationships and provide thorough information to clients.

Responsibilities:

· Perform all required ground, climbing, and aerial lift duties in support of specific job assignments, as directed by crew leader

· Assist in the performance of specialized pruning, takedowns, installing cabling and bracing

· Safely operate equipment (chainsaw, chipper, trucks, hand tools)

· Participate in all job site safety briefings

· Be able to identify native and introduced tree and shrub species and have a working knowledge of each species' characteristics

· Demonstrate and perform proper climbing techniques and procedures, pruning skills, application of approved knots and rigging techniques

· Assist with driving, backing, dumping, and parking duties

· Utilize knowledge of compartmentalization and other concepts related to tree wounding/pruning

The Foreman’s Responsibilities include:

* Ensure job organization; equipment and manpower are used in the most efficient manner

* Walk job site with consulting arborist

* Supervise workmanship ensuring the job meets job order specifications

* Direct crew in work to be done; assign job specific tasks and supervise performance

* Ensure crew members wear safety equipment and follow safety practices at all times

* Direct cleanup of jobsite; ensure all equipment and supplies are secured on the trucks

* Manage time, equipment and materials used

* Maintain safe and controlled work environment at all times

* Adhere to company safety and training policies

* Work closely with supervisor/consulting arborist to insure that job meets client’s expectations

* Ensure all maintenance checks and services on equipment are completed

Requirements:

· 2+ years experience; 5+ years for crew foreman

· Knowledge of proper pruning practices for large shade trees and ornamentals

· Knowledge of chain saw safety and operation

· Proper (ANSI standards) tree climbing techniques

· Adept in tree climbing & bucket truck operation

· CDL a major plus
