Chainsaw lanyard

One problem I had with the new Treemotion harness was that my chainsaw lanyards were not really long enough to be able to use the attached to the rear of the harness.

I bought a new onel, made by bashlin which is longer.

I cut out the ring that comes stiched in at the chainsaw end and fitted a revolver instead. This can be attached anywhere on my harness, i.e. the closest place available. Also the pulley makes it smooth to lower and retrieve after fueling.

I fitted this shackle (from a replacement BF1 bridge I think) to the treemotion and this makes a nice sturdy point for temporary saw attachment, but if it ends up on the carrytool or side D's then thats ok too.

For longer periods of time the saw can be clipped back to the rear attachment point

A good way to increase the length of the saw lanyard whilst making it easier to clip centre back, is girth hitch a short 8" chainsaw lanyard with ring (I think weaver make them)to the ring in the center back.

This is what I use on the TreeFlex. This is also girthed around the caritool fitted just above, so the saw can be clipped high centre back also:

(You can just see the Krab on the red lanyard clipped into the ring on the short blue lanyard. I think they come in funky colours for the fashion conscious too).

You can use any standard saw lanyard this way.

What is the advantage of the revolver in this app? Could it not be a regular non-locking biner here?

How heavy of a saw can that material hold?

hey rupe, i see that you have some kind of small red pack where the back straps are tightened, what is that? just a first aid kit? i noticed in a pic i have that beddes has the same thing, i thought it was some kind of shock absorber but havent found anything like it, whats the word, and i have the same problem you have with my lanyard, is your lanyard longer than 50'' that sherrill sells? also i have been having a probem with my caritool biners and my chainsaw lanyard opening the gate and getting stuck in there, kinda a pain, you experiencing the same thing?

Sure, any biner will do.

When lowering the saw on a bight drawn from the rear of the hitch climber the revolver adds a second pulley to the system making it smoother for the groundie to pull the saw back up. More usefull on a bigger saw.

haha obviously too wet for you girl pants.

seriously though.....im glad i couldnt make it in time to compete...hats off to all those who battled through it!!

it just couldnt have been any worse really could it? rain all day on plane trees!

it stayed dry for the masters at least.

I slipped away quietly, was in a nice restaurant in Bristol two hours later having hot food and cold beer!

Quite a few others dropped out soon after apparently.

I'd love to see the scoresheet! I got 9 points! I bet I wasn't last!

i havent seen it......i know there were definetly 2 others who dropped out early but i dont know what events they had done.
im joking anyway, i cant afford a fiver!!!

thanks rupe, should have known it was something like that, i must have gotten caught up in the treemotion hype, for the amount we payed it should be a hover pack, how is the lanyard working out for you so far? im in the market for a new one so im quite curious to know, thanks brother

You didnt come last Rupe. That honour was left to another drop-out, who despite completing 2 events, still scored less than you! I think he shall remain nameless!

I've always made my own saw lanyards. Here's a pic of an old one.

(i'm not sure why I had the clevis on there, i use an autolock biner) I've since started forming the eye with a kind of beer knot. I make a small slit halfway across the tubular webbing, then thread the tail back in there, then tie an overhand knot so that the slit is inside the knot. It makes a nice eye with no tail. I use some shock cord for the elastic part. It keeps the lanyard out of the way much better.
