Can you guys give me any pointers or hints (what to look out for) when it comes to the exam. I am taking it on the 8th of February and have been studying my butt off.

I am starting to panic slightly on what to expect...any pointers is greatly appreciated.

i just read the book and did all the practice questions. I also looked at id guides a bit. as far as the id part i thought it was fairly easy. Of the ten slides they showed 6 of them were super obvious. somebody recently posted an online practice test you might want to take a look at.

Tha answers are pretty obvious if you understand the questions. If you're really just a climber/cutter then you should study hard the soil-water/PHC/Biology stuff. But if you alredy do a bunch of planting or diagnosis type work and maybe have forestry degree then bone up on the safety/work practices stuff. The test itself is pretty wide-reaching, you have to know it all to pass. Don't stress the ID part too much, it's pretty easy - imagine identifying a tree in the field with four options instead of hundreds - bound to get most of them right, right? The best part is, if you don't pass, you have a year to retake - it's almost a freebie. Let us know if you get the big envelope or the little envelope.
 
Thanks for all the input guys....i am in a couple classes right now that I think are going to help me out a lot when it comes to the test...i am in Soils & Water and Ornamental Plant Health Care and after being in class we are going over a lot of terms that are in the study guide book which makes me feel better...just have to keep moving along
 
i am new to this forum and i also am taking my exam this month hopefully, i am going to take it via computer, i live in ct. you guys sound like it is pretty easy, is this realistic? i have studied every book i can get ahold of. is there any insight to what the test is based on, i have the outline but wow that is a broad scope. by the way this is a great site.

How do they coordinate it with a computer to avoid cheating?

The landscape board here for licenses, uses Department of Motor Vehicle offices, where applicants can pay just $5 or $10, and someone at DMV monitors the room to make sure no notes or phones are used, etc..

Where does the ISA have you scheduled to take it, and what kind of rules do they have for it?

The DMV thing here has been very good for a lot of folks, so they don't have to drive all the way to Salem.

they have private companies offer the exam site, you have to go there and register, show id. and they monitor the test. i am going to take mine in norwalk. they have a list of sites you can choose from. through isa you put in your zip code and then they give a list of places that monitor tests for different companies. what type of landscape license is only $5-10 dollars? anyway the test is 200 questions it is still the same test, just easier to get to instead of waiting for one to come to your area.

The landscape exam is pretty much an all day exam. It's about 3 times bigger than the ISA exam, and typically takes all day.

Only the DMV site fee is ike $10. The exam fee is like $100 or something. If passed, the person can get an individual license for $75. And each landscape business must have one of these people employed, or the owner could be the person who passed the test too.

Only about 1 in 10 people pass all the segments the first time. Its rather difficult.

The only other comparable exam in Oregon that is mandantory for business purposes, is the Landscape Architect exam, which is at least 2 entire days, maybe 3.

Took that practice test. What's the answer to #8?

Cables should be installed at least ____________ the distance from the crotch to the branch tips

The answer he said was 1/3. ?????? According to the study guide it's 2/3.

If anyone else does the test could you post any faults you may find.

Yea it is 2/3 he might be thinking the opposite like the top down
