I'm unsure how technical they get with belts, but a belt that's the correct size might not be the truly correct belt. It would work, but perhaps not as well or have a shorter service life. Of course, a belt that fits is infinitely better than one that's trashed when you need to run the equipment.
I used to deal with maintenance of a variety of industrial equipment. I remember a set of pumps that kept experiencing bearing failures. Turns out the Materials Dept. did not have a full enough specification for the bearings, so although the low bid supplier met the spec for the bearing, it was slightly off from what was required. Seems like the ones we had been buying were the correct dimension, double row angular contact bearings, correct seal, etc., but the angular contact angle and the preload were wrong.
Thx all for so many good suggestions. I'll start with NAPA. I was sceptical after a few prior experiences with auto part store. they only know to look up when u need a belt for cars, no cross referencing skills.
You should be able to find the belt number on the old belt. Sometimes a painted-on label and others th numberes are molded into the belt in relief. If so, wire brush the debris and then rub some chalk onto the belt to read the number.
Be sure to get a set of matched/balanced belts. The belts are tested and measured to make into 2,3,4 etc setups.
You may find a setup, I don't know the name, v-belts inside and the outside is joined in one wide web. More common for higher power units than most sub 12" chippers.
Check with Bandit as to whether there is a Bandit part number *and* a manufacturer part number. I got a Kohler engine key for my 75xp that way... Not sure if it applies to belts too.
I was going to try to help you by giving the make and model of my spare belt on the shelf. Turns out the spare belt the guy gave me when I bought my 65XP used, is totally wrong, so I’ll need a set of belts too. I should probably text the guy and see if it’s for a different piece of equipment he’s got.
