Cant clip retrieval snap on pulleysaver on rope?

Location

Just using my pulleysaver for the first time today, for some reason I cannot clip the retrieval snap on the line. Im stuck passing the line through the snap and reattaching the retrieval ball. Using Tachyon. Can get the rope in, but wont pass the gate enough to close it. Its brand new, im baffled.

Did I get a bum snap?

Nope, you are supposed to twist the rope into it ;-)
It's kind off smal but it will fit just nice and won't clip out accidently.

Notice that your rope is a bit bigger in size just under the eye splice so try to clip it in beyond the splice.

Climb safe and have fun with the pulleysaver

Hi JeffL,

The pulleysaver clip is designed that way on pupose.

As said above, it takes a kind of "rolling in" motion to install.

The design benefit is that then it can not physically take a second thickness of rope.

This is to prevent a random bight of rope causing 1 of 2 things...from 1 direction, it could cause the rope to "roll out" of the clip, from the other direction it will actually hitch itself on and jam you up!

You can replicate this using a regular wire gate 'biner.

A lot of people have had the same initial reaction as yourself.

I was at lunch typing up this post, and thought hey, maybe I'll rewatch one of Taylors videos on youtube and ended up not doing it. Sure enough, got home later and watched his pulleysaver video, where its very apparent there is a distinct motion to getting the rope in, but it wasnt mentioned, so never committed it to memory. Bummer.

Hope someone else can learn from this!

I too at first was having a tough time with the snap but once you get the roll motion down it works great. I thought for sure it would only work with small dia. line but I can roll 1/2" vortex into it just fine.
