When I have the time canoeing to a tree is a nice way to do a rec climb. I went about two miles round trip in the canoe which was a pleasant way to get some good exercise. By the time I got a line in a young double-trunk Black Gum/Nysssa sylvatica the sun was getting low. I hung a bag during line setting so the climb amounted to a throwbag rescue.
On the climb I got a chance to test out some new line I'm trying out as hitch cord. I picked up some Dyneema core Samson WarpSpeed II 9.5 mm to try as a bridge for my Tree Motion harness. On paper it looked good but once it was in my hand I didn't think it would be great for a bridge, the cover is a little too supple. I was hoping for something more like the elusive Globe 3000 with a tight cover weave. The suppleness inspired me to try it as a hitch cord, first on my lanyard, excellent, then paired with my Rope Wrench, as it turned out during my test also very good.
