Camp Tree Access Fall Arrest Harness is made in China?

I just bought one of these harnesses. One of the main reasons was it I read it was an Italian company. The harness came and it says Made in China. It was over $500. I feel kind of ripped off. It didn't say it was made in China anywhere on the product description. I probably would have paid a little more and bought a Buckingham Ergovation with the H harness.

Sorry, guess I just needed to vent. I guess I'll try to return it and get a US made one.

Making purchasing decisions is such a challenge. There are many reasons to reject one product in favor of another

Look at cars. There are so many cars with non US badges that have plants here.

A few years ago I talked with a friend of mine from a climbing gear manufacturer about product sourcing and labeling. His company, like many, had parts made in Pacific Rim countries then assembled at ‘home’. Along the way they had oversight in the process to maintain standards. To keep the PR companies’honest’ he would show up at the door of the company and do product testing. The company had to pass muster according to international quality control specs. They also had tests in their process too.

This whole works only addresses the ‘hard’ stuff. What you hold in your hands. Accounting for economics is a bigger challenge

Being a conscientious consumer is not easy anymore

Have a friend in Italy that’s a mechanical engineer in a ski company. He’s been over on many trips to Taiwan and can vouch for the components quality from their suppliers there. In fact some things he doubts you could get made in the EU at all. Really hard working people that are very inventive and a pleasure to work with he says. Back home and at suppliers they have QC checks mandated by all sorts of certifying bodies for example to supply equipment for FIS/ World Cup racing.

And then there’s others of course - sigh. Shoddy work really bugs me - no excuse for it these days. Good design/ build is not unatainable.

After watching 5 seasons of the Sopranos I’m not sure I’d trust my life to something made in Italy any more than any other country… webbing is webbing?

I think there's many great companies in Italy - climbing gear like Grivel, Scarpa but also (although it's way outta my price range) gotta say the test drive at 220+ kph in a Ferrari 488 in Maranello was pretty awesome. The Italo (4th gen TGV from Alstom) at 330 km/hr was like an airplane on the ground, but with leather seats and really nice wine with dinner. Beats the Runner all to heck. Just my 2 cents tho. Cheers

I've owned the Tree Access ANSI since it came out. I just replaced it with another smaller as it doesn't fit me anymore they way I'd like it to. I am also friends with the US Rep so maybe that gives me some bias but I'll confidently say its a quality product. Not judging you. Just want you to know it's not junk. I do understand the lines in the sand. I loved the MCRS and Valiant but had to unload them because they're weaver pads and I can't support them so I get it. If your concern is merely on a quality issue, I haven't experienced anything that would give me pause.
