Cameras & Trees: Need Advice

Need opinions soon.

I take a lot of tree photos, but scenery also. Have done well with my 3 year old Canon S1 IS w/ x 10 zoom. But it's showing a sign of wear.

Two I'm considering are:

Canon Powershot A650 IS
12 megapixels and 6 x zoom

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3K
7 megapixels and 10 x zoom

Both are in stock at Costco right now. Which would you choose?

Anything else you would recommend that Circuit City might stock in store? I prefer purchasing locally. Not sure if I'd buy from Walmart, but have not looked. Any great cameras that you might be using currently?

Where is Nick !! Isn't he the technical Guru?

Thanks.

Neither....the S1 was a great camera, and has been superseded and upgraded twice....perhaps get the S5....

less mp than the 650, but better camera overall...bigger of course, but you know that.

I have an A series camera, the 710IS. It is alright, but limits me in some areas.

I have been a fan of Canon for many years now. The interface has always seemed very easy and intuitive. If you are used to Canon you may want to stay with that brand. A review I watched said the canon A650 is slow to process the images you take (3 sec. per picture) What about the G9 or S5? They do not seem to expensive.

The panasonic has a Leica lens which is very nice.
The panasonic greater optical zoom ability too (10x vs 6x).

You probably can't go wrong and will be happy with with whatever you choose.

good luck!

cannon and nikon make the best glass for their lenses which makes for a better picture, and a higher price. I was able to pick up a nikon for 150 bucks. Its a simple point and shoot but has a high mp count and only a 3x optical zoom, which sucks for zoom shots but works out well
for scenery shots. Good luck and enjoy

im right with ya easy. i have a couple of nice slr cameras, but i wouldnt dare bring them in the tree with me, i may have misread the original post

if your looking for a good camera to use in a tree, watch how much you spend because it will break, i promise

I have a G9. I love it. Takes great pics and lets you shoot in RAW! Tough camera, built solid! I like the old school dials on it as well.
