Buck vs. Weaver Leg Scabbard

Anyone who has used either the Buckingham or Weaver Handsaw Scabbard that straps to your leg...

I am looking for feedback... do you prefer the straps to be mounted on the back of the scabbard (like Buckingham) or on the front (like Weaver). I have heard that the straps on the front can make it difficult to insert the handsaw... but the straps on the back can allow sliding...

Anyone know what I am talking about? Or am I crazy?

Buckingham Version

Weaver's version can be seen in their catalog.

Didn't like the Buck for the reason you stated and the straps would come loose no matter what I did. Silky has a couple of blocks that fit on the strap to help prevent movement but I haven't found a problem with that.

I have no experience with the Weaver version.

I've tried both and hate both.

I have a saw pod and it really is the only leg scabbard I like. I've had it for a few years and the Velcro isn't what it used to be but for 25$ to last 3+ years I can't really complain and it's actually a pretty easy fix

The funny thing is that Weaver designed their version in response to complaints about the Buck version... but recently I've been hearing that the Weaver version "warps" (for lack of a better word) the scabbard making it hard to insert the saw. I've heard this from three different users.

It seems like there would be some simple ways to improve this... but yeah the Sawpod is a pretty good alternative.

I like the hard plastic scabbard that came with my sugoi. Wears well on the saddle and the leg, and unsheathing the saw is effortless.

I like the looks of the weaver one over the buckingham and this can be used in conjuction with a saw pod as well. Been there done that. Works pretty well.

I had a Buck w/Zubat. Lent it to a climber at the ITCC Work Climb event (can't remember who) at the Morton Arboretum and never got it back.
Made the trip to the local arborist supply store and all they had were the Weaver versions, purchased it and used it twice and haven't used it since. I hated it. When I tensioned it, I couldn't pull the Zubat out without tearing the scaabard up from the bending the straps caused.
Got the SawPod from TreeStuff and like it. Use it with the Zubat plastic scabbard.
I really liked the Buck version. I'd use it if I had it. I took a full wrap with the velcro leg strap on the vertical scabbard strap to prevent any movement. Worked like a charm.

I have used the weaver version. It does bend a little. Not enough that i thought it was a big deal. I felt it shifted around my leg a little though, couldn't get it tight enough to stay in place. Maybe thats why mine did warp.

The reason i stopped using the weaver is because of the straps. I wish they were velcro. They take to long to put on, i wanted it to be quick and easy.

I since have been making my own with the zubat scabbard and some velcro from the local craft shop. The plastic scabbard of the zubat wears out so fast for me though. After about a week the handsaw won't stay in the scabbard very well.

Think i might have to give the leather scabbard another shot.

I have used the weaver one, don't like the straps, they should be quick release (buckle straps could be easily retrofitted). Biggest complaint is the velcro retaining strap for the handle, it gets in the way and the zubat fits well enough that it doesn't fall out.

Weaver gets my vote
