wanted to get some advice on best climbing spurs for somebody my size
i'm 6'4" 250 bare butt so gecko's out of equation
wesSpur seems to think geared up titanium , or aluminium want stand the load even though rated at 350lbs
sure would appreciate some input if i do have to go steel whats the best?
THANKS IN ADVANCE

Welcome Fly. There are far smarter people than me when it comes to spurs but lets start with some basics.

Been on spurs before?
How many hours a day/week will you be on them?
6'4" 250 is athletic build, can we assume you have motor skills and your knees are still in good shape?

There is no reason metalogically that Alum or Tit would not jold your size. Now if you are continuously twisting them or stomping them into the tree, or worse yet gaffing the other spike then yes Steel would be stonger.

Thanks for welcome there monkey
One knee good other so so
Not gonna be full time
I do grading, clearing, logging ,and lot of tree removal around existing structures seems like the call to do more Climbing is happening ,a days need to work everyday possible don,t like turning away work
Best say have no real time on spurs so consider me a Newby there just want the most comfort available
Figure once saddled up and geared up saw attached probably gonna be 280 to 290

I'm 6'-3"/ 270# I use the regular steel Buckingham spurs. Best advice I have is get a good set of pads. Hated the factory pads but love the Big Buc pads I just bought. Worth every penny.

It's all in the pads. Steel, aluminum, titanium....you're not going to notice much difference in the material unless you're wearing them all day. Take the money you'll save buying steel spikes and invest it in the best pads you can afford. Something with shin support and lots of padding. Big Bucks or the Velcro wrap pads come to mind.

I am in the 260 range before gear and have tried several pad-spur combinations.

For Buckingham spurs I like these pads: http://www.sherrilltree.com/Felt-backed-Leather-Pads-w-steel-insert#.Vc0fmj8pDFo

After trying the Stein X2 climbers, I liked the pads so much that I put them on my Bashlins. They are now my go-to combo.

Everyone seems to like the caddy pads with Kleins, but I never could make that combination work for me.

Caddy pads suck if you're a bigger guy with bigger legs. Because they're preformed there is no way to properly form them to your legs. That's just from my brief experience with them.

You guys are making me wanna try the big buck pads. I do like the Cadillac's but I could do way with the klunkyness. My gear obsession is returning : (

I never liked the big bucks pads although uses them briefly.felt like wearing a sleeping bag and they stretched out as bad as any other leather pad causing the shank to slide around. But they were company handy downs...

Wow thanks for all the input guys much appreciated
Another question TWISTED OR STRAIGHT SHANKS. I known not gonna be no carved in stone answer what is advantages vs disadvantages thanks again

Been thinking about trying those pads... I'm using the Super Climber ones, now. Very comfy, but they're huge and bulky.
The wraps are amazing. I've tried a lot of different pads and these are hands down my favorite. I never have problems with the velcro either ( just throwing that out there)

Ok one more question( buckingham pads) ) with steel inserts work with twisted shanks ?
One place recommended no inserts with twisted shall
Steel inserts with regular shanks
Sorry to keep asking hoping to get best setup possible thks
