Best 20-25” saw for use in the tree?

I am looking to replace my old 254xp which had a 20”. It was great in the tree but slightly small for big wood on the ground.

What do you people recommend?

Z'sTrees for the win!. A 562 XP with a 24" bar will throw some chips like a mofo.
I’m with Rico, my fully modded 550 xp with a 20” Sugi bar is a complete animal! Nothing slows it down, it’ll out cut a stock 60-65cc saw any day of the week, it’s so light and powerful it’s crazy! my 562,partially modded ( not fully yet) is a ripper as well, why run a heavy saw in the trees if you don’t have to.

Tell me more Devon. What was done to the saw, and who did the work? I love my stock 550XP, so I imagine a fully modded one cuts like a raped ape!
You get your hands on the 572XP yet?

I've got a ported 550 as well. It's my favorite for picking brush from a crane.
The 562 is what goes on the truck with me every day though. Mines a 2017 model and it runs and starts flawlessly. The 3/4 wrap and dogs are awesome and it pulls a 24" full comp like a champ.

Was done by Walkers Saw shop on Vancouver Island BC [emoji1063] Canada. Reg has had some done as well as others on here who told me to ship it there. They made a modded muffler for my 372 & (562 which is currently) when the 550 is started you get everyone’s attention! Triple exhaust ports it’s just an awesome awesome saw! The 372 is way livelier just with the muffler mod as well. I just don’t know how to explain it anymore of how amazing of a job and their quality of work is!

Its funny, I used to be a full on Stihl guy like my Dad before me. Then when they sold 201s that wouldn't even run and told us there was nothing wrong with them even after they SOLD a fix for them! I now run Huskys and am really impressed, much better saws IMO. We too have a 550 that we use for crane work, a 372 ,395 and a 3120. The air filtration is far superior to stihl and they are cheaper. Adios Stihl

That is a hard combo to beat for a day to day basis..

Someone who is worth their salt behind a saw can get alot done with a 20in bar.. Of course that goes without saying that there's always a place for a large bar when needed.. but to carry that around for everything is alot more weight then what most ppl will need on an average basis.

Personally i just picked up another 562 & thought I'd give a that new 25in Versa Cut bar a chance as my Tsumara order got screwed up. (Oregon Versa Cut is supposed to only be 2.5lbs) I only went 25in to do double duty ground & climb & I'm kind of regretting it.. Wish i had just gone 550xp/18"-20".. With saws I'm all about power to weight & for my immediate needs i could have gotten away with less. Im also I'm pretty sure my 3/4 wrap ain't helping that Power 2 Weight situation but i really wanted to try one & the dealer included it in addition to the regular one for nothing so i thought that was pretty swell as I can always put the original back on..

Either way, where most would just buy a smaller bar to lose some weight or make less cumbersome in the tree, I'll use it an excuse to grab a 550 & throw my 18in Sugi on it..

Here's a pic in case anyone was wondering about the Versa Cut.. well see how long it lasts.. have a feeling it ain't nothing special.. just lighter then the average husky or power match..

Mine used to look that nice!
Is that triple port muffler deafening or what? Mine just has the area under the stock outlet opened up as much as possible and the baffle gutted and it's stupid loud, louder than my dual port 394.

Are y'all brazing these muffler ports/shrouds on? I recall way back when they first came out, that's how they were being opened up to breath..

Anyone know if dual port cans are being mass produced for these two saws? You know from an aftermarket like NPW or whatnot? Like they have for the old school 044/440/046/460/372/385/395's..?

I'd like to open mine up, but i don't have the resources to braze & just being able to plug & play would be nice. That way i can slap the stock one back on & keep my 4yr warranty... However I'm not sure I'll be strong enough to keep this thing out of a builders hands after previously having a built one. These things really scream when built right & user knows how to sharpen..

The only one I've added a port to was the 394. I used a deflector from a 288 iirc, it just attaches with to machine screws. I think the one from the 262 is the same style just smaller.
That said it's pretty simple to grind out the area under the stock deflector and drill a few holes in the baffle.

Oh is there baffles in there? Ive honestly never seen the inside of one.

So your just making a hole & screwing a reflector on with machine screws? The material is so thin, do they not just vibrate right out? Or are you actually using a nut on the inside somehow..

Like i mentioned, i haven't looked into this muffler at all.. maybe i should dig up some articles on it, that way I'd be able to picture what your referencing..

I'm assuming in the past they brazed because a mig welder would blow through it the material?
