We are seeking experienced Arborist Crew Leaders who have a passion for preserving and caring for trees. This position will involve pruning and general maintenance of trees and shrubs on commercial and residential properties.

QUALIFICATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS

• At least 3 years of climbing and bucket operation experience in the tree care industry
• A current commercial driver’s license or ability to attain a CDL is a must
• Degree in Arboriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, Plant Science, Landscape Management, or a related field
• ISA Arborist Certification is preferred but not required

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise and manage tree care crew while performing all aspects of tree care services, as directed by the Arborist Representative and Local Manager
• Review scope of work and safety issues with the Arborist Representative prior to beginning each work assignment
• Ensure that each crew member is trained appropriately for each designated job assignment
• Demonstrates the ability to manage a crew safely
• Ensure crew members conduct tree risk assessments prior to working on trees
• Great leadership and communication skills

For a leading company in this industry...that pay is pathetic. Your not going to attract good crew leaders at 18 to 28 an hour. This is 2017. I made 26 an hour as a crew leader 10 years ago!!

Thats a starting point we have many foreman that are well above this mark.

It's amazing that a degree is mandatory but an ISA cert is not. I'm very curious as to what it is that everyone is after in the college graduates? I've had at least three grads come in with no cert and are completely honest that they wouldn't be able to pass the exam. If I had to guess I'd say it's just strictly for bragging rights.....

The experience is much more important than the degree, I can't speak for Mike's office, but we don't require it for the right candidate. I don't have one as a forman, but I am studying for my BCMA with my office's support. I'm sure CA, CDL, licensed applicator, CTSP, and TRAQ, along with crane experience, ID skill, PHC experience, air spade experience, skill with material handlers and stump grinders, and affect with customers would all be factors. They are for my office.

I can say that I have worked with Mike both within and outside of Bartlett, and he's a great tree guy with a properly twisted sense of humor, and while I don't know every one at West Chester, I do know they have some studs (shout out to Travis "stick saw" Shaw)

I was making more money contract climbing, but Bartlett has good equipment and facilities, benefits, 401k, production based bonus, a leading industry laboratory, educational opportunities, and some pretty high caliber people. It was worth the stress reduction for me.

So this was a pretty stock cut and paste job posting. We do not require a degree but some of our foremen do have one. My real qualifiers are people that are passionate about trees. I want people that are lifelong learners, open to new ideas and are team players. We are one of the more progressive Bartlett offices. Half of our climbers are climbing SRT and our PHC team is second to none. West Chester is an awesome place to live.
