wtf indeed, is there a competion on for bucket related fatalities ? this is getting really sad to see more families affected by poor judgement and practices.

I wouldn't call that a tragic accident. Just an unfortunate mistake that lead to a fatality.

Neither tragic (except for his family) or unfortunate mistake, just plain willful ignorance and likely an attitude of rugged individualist. Balls bigger than brains.....

I don't have a bucket truck. Is it normal to rig off the bucket?
Also, it says his rigging rope broke. Either he was dropping massive pieces off his bucket and rigging or he was using very bad rope.

Strange trajedy.

Don't speculate based on bad reporting. He might have been on a catapult, booming on a drum with wood, over a pile of trees.

Uhhh..... No. Even the big utility rigs equipped with a winch/hoist are not used for true rigging, meaning dynamic loads.

Like a crane they're not designed for dynamic/shock loads. All a bucket truck is for is lifting a person. In the case of the winch/hoist versions used by some utilities they're only for lifting and setting poles.
