Bad Economy=\"I Can Be An ARBORIST!\"
I just had to post this. This picture is a prime example of what a bad economy does to the buisness. I live in the town hardest struck by the recent Pillowtex (used to be Cannon Mills) textiles company closure. Thousands of relativly uneducated folks with few job prospects have been without jobs for several months now. The first round of layoffs coincided with the hugh ice storm we had this year, and I cringe everytime I pass one of the formily beautiful willow oaks downtown that were topped to toothpicks and left standing. I just thought it was a bad contract awarded by the local government, but now I think differently.
When I saw this particular job go down I knew the score. I saw the guy collect cash at the end of the first day of this (crappy) job, from the poor old lady that lives in the trailer. There was a redtip 24' extension ladder leaning (almost vertical) against the tree on the left and the ropes you can see in the tree.
The ladder stayed for a week, and then fell down, it wasn't there this morning when I took the photo. The ropes are still in the tree, after more than 2 months! I doubt you can see, but the rope has overhand knots all the way up along it's lenght to its anchor point, like a gym climbing rope. I think the guy was actually clibing this rope, thats all I can figgure, it seems to have no other purpose. Worst part, the trees have been dead for about two seasons, and there are some serious limbs hanging directly over the little old lady's trailer. They left those and dropped a couple of limbs that were vertical, or growing towards the street!
Bad treework is bad enough, skipping out on the job and taking the money from the little old lady is inexcusable.
It's a shame. I'll have to see if I can't propose a tree ordinance for my county. At least then I wont have to see this kind of eyesore anymore. Too bad for the lady though.
