Atlas Gloves

OK so I love Atlas Gloves but sometimes...and this is one of them.... they make my finger tips (usually my thumbs) do some sort of weird rot like thing. The skin becomes sort of raw and white spots under the skin form. What the heck is going on.... Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them. Climb On!

I climbed with'em all day today, and my fingers still smell like RUBBER! (Yes, after a shower!) ...No blisters, though.

I wonder if any of this is what 'she' said. ;-)

then again you might have an allirgey to the type of rubber.

Never had a skin prob, but after 2 weeks no one wants near the smell of them.

I think it has something to do with the skin staying wet for extended periods of time.

That's totally what she said.

Sounds really cheap by comparison to Atlas. What do you think is the durablilty, by comparison? Around here at a local store the Atlas blue gloves are around $40 plus tax/ dozen, as compared to $40 (or was it $50) plus shipping for 40.

I have.. wash them in a regular cycle, then turn them inside out to air dry, they clean up just fine. I use a couple pair at a time, so that one is drying out while I'm using another.

well if you are just climbing (some of the guys I worked with rigged with them) in them you can get them to last for a couple weeks...when you wash them they come out just fine and actually come out with more grip....they are really good gloves...the ones with the black wrist outline are for colder weather and are slightly larger gloves so you can also get the wonder glove liners to put inside them...the white wrist outline is for summer and are a perfect fit

i use the atlas 370's and they develop a stench that will linger on your fingers for a full day following wearing them...but they are sooo sweet when they are new!

try wondergloves look at above post

The wonder gloves look like the "ugly gloves" Sherrill used to sell. I loved the "old" version of them, but it seemed like sometime earlier this year they changed over to a different version of them that were a bit heavier and more similar to the Atlas gloves. The Atlas gloves are a heavier duty cotton and the latex is heavier too, the wonder gloves breath better, and are definitely much lighter.

I also prefer the wonder glove type style because the latex wears off more subtly, like wearing down wood with sandpaper, whereas the Atlas glove latex is so thick, when the gloves start getting worn, they come off it big thick chunks, which when climbing, get sucked into my friction hitch when descending and bind the line up. Not fun! :(

I don't know if you're talking about the atlas rubber coated gloves, or the nitrile ones, but I use the nitrile ones and I get the swamp hands syndrome every once in a while, too. I've always figured that it was due to my hands not drying out for long periods of time. As for the stink, washing them fixes that real quick. I just throw them in with my work clothes, washer and dryer, and doing that, I can get 2-4 weeks out of one pair depending on what I'm doing in them. If you don't wash them, you'll end up getting new gloves before they're worn out because you're lady won't let you touch her with "those nasty, stinky hands."

Check for latex allergy too. It is pretty common, and a developed over time condition (the more exposure to latex the greater the chances of allergy). I think this is what Holly was referring to in one post.
